Could a Love Expert Find Your Mr Right?
GLAMOUR puts the science of matchmaking to the test with the help of these three readers.
You've tried speed dating and blind dating you're still single and sick of it. Although Most stories of love seem to revolve around chance encounters and lucky breaks, could there be a science to finding The One? Is it possible to cut out all the going-nowhere dates with the wrong man by knowing, unequivocally, how to read the clues in his looks and lifesyle? Rachel Pask took charge of GLAMOUR's love experiment in order to find out.
| | True love: Is there a formula for it? To discover the truth, the GLAMOUR love experiment recruited three matchmaking experts. Zerrin Hodgkins uses Biomatch biorhythms, Dr Glenn Wilson uses Compatibility Quotients and Suzi Malin uses Echoism. They drew up a questionnaire to get the information they needed to put their matchmaking skills to work. Then Back in June issue we invited GLAMOUR readers to enter the experiment.

Perfect pairs...on paper, at least

| | Matchmaker 1: Zerrin Hodgkins used Biomatch Biorhythms to find Eve Lightfoot's Mr Right.
Hodgkins's biorhythms theory says life is governed by four hormonal cycles relating to emotional, physical, reflexive and intellectual sides. She uses birth dates to create a Biomatch chart as well as taking culture and occupation into consideration.
Hodgkins chose 27 year old Richard Brook as Eve's ideal date.
"Richard's birthday makes him very compatible with Eve, this gives them an excellent score on their Biomatch charts."
| | Matchmaker 2: Dr Glenn Wilson used Compatibility Quotients to find Louise Friend's Mr Right.
Dr Wilson gives potential lovers a compatibility quotient test, which looks at the common problem areas in relationships, such as attitudes to fidelity and smoking. The more areas two people agree on the greater their chance of success. Dr Wilson picked 31 year old Brett Wood for Louise.
"Loise and Brett agreed on ten of the twelve key areas" says Wilson. "Overall, they scored 140 on the test. A CQ score this high is shared by only 2% of couples in the world."
| | Matchmaker 3: Suzi Malin used Echoism to find Svetla Abadjieva's Mr Right.
Malin believes that love is based on a highly sophisticated visual instinct, so she reads faces to pick up signs of a suitable match. Her method says that if two people share key facial characteristics they will be well suited.
For example Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston are a perfect echoist match.
"Mike Milnes is a good match for Svetla on the bases of echoism" explains Malin. "The shape of their features shows that they are compatible.... It's like a jigsaw fitting into place."

Six singles, one weekend away...
But did the theories work? As none of the singles knew who the experts had selected as their ideal date, would they gravitate towards their perfect-on-paper match?

| | Eve and Richard:
Initially swept off her feet by Brett, it isn't until the group go out to see a drag act on the third evening that Eve starts warming to Richard. The couple sit next to each other all night and Richard admits he likes Eve's company, although he suspects Louise fancies him - she's invited him to a party back home. However, the same night, two mini-skirted holiday reps catch his eye and he ends up kissing one. Eve is left to go home alone.
The following morning it isn't just a hangover Richard has to worry about: "I shouldn't have kissed that rep." he says. "I hope it hasn't scuppered my chances with Eve, there's a real chemistry there". Cupid's obviously feeling generous as Eve confides she thinks he's lovely. "If we keep seeing each other it could definitely go somewhere."
Unsurprisingly, when Richard and Eve learn that they are a great Biomatch, both are delighted. "If Richard asks me out, I'll definitely say yes." Good thing Richard plans to do just that once they're back home.
| | Louise and Brett:
Relations got off to a bad start as, minutes after arriving at the airport, Brett announces he wants to elope... with Eve.
The situation does not improve when he finally talks to Louise. "She's a gold-digger, she's just after an Australian passport." he declares. So far, not so good...
The morning after the first night Brett confesses he kissed Eve but as the holiday wears on Louise and Eve grow closer and Louise confesses to her new friend that she fancies Brett. Eve avoids Brett for the rest of the trip. "He's so arrogant, he's getting on my nerves" she moans.
But Eve's reserve does very little to help Brett and Louise as Brett switches his attention from Eve to Svetla. "Svetla's quiet but I like her, she's very intelligent" he adds.
Louise meanwhile is hurt. "Brett couldn't see passed the fact that I don't look like Eve - she said some very nasty things about him and I defended him" she sighs.
| | Svetla and Mike:
There's very little interaction between the group's quietest couple. Mike is the first of the two to inspire any love interest when his mastery of Arabic and French proves to be a knee-trembling-turn-on for Louise.
Svetla happily mixes with the group but shows little interest in the men. Until, that is, Brett sets out to snare her. On the last night they head off to a local hotspot and later share a cab back to the hotel. But their good-night kiss is less than romantic as Svetla, despite having lips puckered, only gets a peck on the cheek." I couldn't kiss two girls on the same trip" explains Brett referring to his first night kiss with Eve.
When Mike and Svetla are told they were paired, they seem non-plussed. "I'm surprised, we've hardly spoken" explains Svetla. "Probably because we weren't attracted to each other."
"If chemistry was based on faces alone I would go for Mike - but I like athletic guys." Ouch!

Expert reaction:
| | Zerrin Hodgkins, the creator of matchmaking website, Biomatch.com and the VIP-Biomatch.com, matchmakers' matchmaking website, on Eve and Richard
"I am delighted that Eve and Richard got on well but I am not surprised. I was concerned that with so many people around they would not be able to tune into one another. Thankfully this wasn't the case."

| | Dr Glenn Wilson, co-author of CQ: Learn the Secret of Lasting Love and The Science of Love on Louise and Brett:
"A high CQ doesn't guarantee the chemistry between a couple, but it can determine whether a relationship will last."
GLAMOUR success rating: B-

| | Suzi Malin, author of Love At First Sight on Svetla and Mike:
"Echoism is simply a starting point of attraction. An echoist relationship is based on love and mutual understanding."
